Our Team

We utilise a number of mediators who are self-employed and are engaged on a case by case basis. All of our mediators have a formal legal qualification and are able to demonstrate expertise in the area they are mediating in. This ensures that the mediator who is appointed is able to understand the legal context in which the dispute arises. In our view this is essential to ensure that the dispute can be managed successfully.

In using our services, we set ourselves the following minimum standards when appointing a mediator:

  • The mediator must be or have been a practicising solicitor or barrister;
  • The mediator must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the area of law in which the dispute arises;
  • The mediator must be accredited by a formal mediation provider such as the ADR Group;
  • The mediator must be a member of the Civil Mediation Council;
  • The mediator must be able to evidence up to date training and professional development in their area of practice.

By observing these standards, you can be satisfied that our mediators will meet all regulatory and professional standards thereby improving the quality of the mediation session and the outcome for both parties.

Monica Shuman - Practice Manager

Monica is your first point of contact at Essential Mediation. She is responsible for managing the administration of the mediation and will also appoint the appropriate mediator to the session.

Monica achieved a First Class Degree in Chemistry from Imperial College London. She has extensive expertise in public relations and has UK and European/Global experience.

Prior to joining Essential Mediation, Monica has worked for a number of the UK’s top healthcare communications agencies, including Shire Hall Communications (now Ogilvy Health PR), Burson-Marsteller, Ketchum and Reynolds Mackenzie. Her areas of expertise include both media-driven and medical education-led activities, skills which Monica has successfully utilised across many integrated PR programmes.

She has joined Essential Mediation in order to pursue a change in her career and is responsible for the office management, including recruitment and marketing. Monica brings a wealth of experience to the role including her experience of working within the commercial sector and in dealing with the national media.
